Why Choose TCS
Why Choose Technical Construction Solutions for Insulation in Duluth, MN?
Homeowners and contractors across Duluth know that insulation must be engineered for the harsh climate, not just installed. A common failure is single-system thinking, such as adding blown-in attic insulation without addressing underlying air leaks. If penetrations around plumbing, recessed lights, and top plates aren't sealed first, warm air continues to escape into the attic, warming the roof deck and creating damaging ice dams at the eaves.
Simply putting more insulation over an air sealing problem will not solve the underlying issue.
Technical Construction Solutions (TCS) approaches insulation by looking at the entire building envelope. Founded by Freddy Lewis, who brings 15 years of heavy construction experience to the company, TCS avoids band-aid fixes. Instead, the crew performs a whole-building assessment to understand exactly how air and heat move through the space. By diagnosing the root cause first, like sealing attic gaps with spray foam before applying blown-in insulation, they ensure the recommended system actually resolves the problem.
Whether you are dealing with recurring ice dams, high heating bills, crawl space moisture, or a new build that needs to stay on schedule, getting it done correctly the first time is essential. Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam is the highest-performance insulation system for air sealing and thermal control. In Duluth's climate, those two functions are inseparable. Lake Superior creates a persistent humidity and moisture load that Duluth buildings deal with year-round. Closed-cell foam stops air and moisture infiltration simultaneously, bonding directly to the substrate into a rigid, water-resistant barrier that doesn't shift or sag.

Blown-In and Batt Insulation
Duluth carries a significant inventory of older homes where attic insulation was installed to code standards from decades ago. Blown-in insulation is the most practical path to correcting that: high thermal performance at depth, fast installation without tearing out ceilings, and a cost structure that makes the project financially accessible for homeowners.

Concrete Lifting and Slab Leveling
Settled concrete around Duluth properties is not just cosmetic. The freeze-thaw cycling that hits St. Louis County, combined with hillside soils, creates subbase movement that worsens with every season. Structural foam injection lifts and stabilizes the slab by filling the voids from below, without excavation or the cure time of a full replacement.

Concrete Floor Coatings
Duluth garage floors and warehouse facilities take a specific kind of punishment: road salt, vehicle traffic, and the moisture vapor that Lake Superior's humidity drives through unsealed concrete. Epoxy bonds to properly ground and profiled concrete, protecting it from staining, chemical exposure, and wear while producing an easily maintainable surface.

Spray Foam Roof Systems
A commercial roof losing energy through air gaps or a failing membrane costs money every month. Spray foam roofing systems address air sealing, insulation, and weatherproofing simultaneously in a single application. The seamless foam surface eliminates penetration points and seam failures, extending serviceable life while removing tear-off costs.

Waterproofing and Air Barriers
Water intrusion and uncontrolled air movement cause significant long-term structural damage. Lake Superior's humidity load, heavy spring snowmelt on hillside soils, and wind-driven rain demand complete envelope protection. Waterproofing and air barrier systems stop water and air movement at the point of entry rather than managing the damage after it occurs.
Learn More →Why It Matters for Your Project
Most insulation contractors run one rig and schedule their jobs around its capacity. TCS operates three spray foam rigs, two fiberglass rigs, and a 44-foot commercial trailer, the "Big Rig" setup, that transports foam material, scissor lifts, and large-scale equipment to a project site in a single trip.
For homeowners in Duluth, that capacity means scheduling availability and a crew that isn't dividing attention and equipment across three simultaneous jobs. For commercial clients managing construction timelines on larger builds near the Port of Duluth or across the industrial corridor in West Duluth, it means the insulation crew shows up fully staged and completes the project on the schedule that was agreed to before mobilization.
"A general contractor who worked alongside TCS on a large commercial building in the Duluth area said afterward that it was the first insulation crew on that job that arrived with everything ready and moved straight into work without a setup delay, a supply run, or an equipment issue. That operational readiness is built into how every project here gets run."
Why Duluth Contractors and Homeowners Trust Technical Construction Solutions
15+ Years of Hands-On Construction Experience.
This company was founded and is led by someone who spent over a decade and a half working in construction in the field before TCS existed. That background means insulation decisions get made with a full understanding of how a building performs as a whole, framing, moisture management, foundation systems, HVAC interaction, and the insulation layer that connects all of it.
Multiple Systems. One Right Answer.
With spray foam, blown-in, and batt insulation all in the operation, the recommendation you receive is based on what your building actually requires in each specific space, not on which system the crew carries or which product margin is most attractive. Cathedral ceilings, attic decks, and crawl spaces often need different systems.
Built From the Ground Up. Still Growing.
TCS started with a single used foam rig and grew into a multi-rig, multi-state operation through consistent field results and a reputation built one project at a time. The addition of rigs, crews, and service territory reflects what happens when clients call back and refer others.
Built for Duluth's Climate Specifically.
Lake Superior creates moisture and weather conditions that don't exist in landlocked markets. Every insulation system TCS installs accounts for lake-effect humidity, heavy snow load, sustained cold, and the freeze-thaw cycling that tests building assemblies harder here than in most of Minnesota.
Family-Built. Field-Proven.
Construction has been part of this company from the beginning. That history produces practical worksite judgment that shapes how every project gets approached, from the initial building assessment through the final inspection, with real-world problem-solving.
Fair Pricing. No Shortcuts.
Every estimate reflects what the project actually requires: the right system for each space, proper installation without compressed batts or incomplete air sealing, and no upselling to a more expensive product when a more appropriate one exists at lower cost.
On Time. On Budget. Every Time.
Projects finish on the schedule agreed to and within the budget outlined. For homeowners planning a project around a contractor's timeline, and for commercial clients managing construction schedules, that reliability is something you can count on.

Thank you.Posted on Google Bob WinsorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If Google allowed 10 stars I'd give them to TCS Insulation & Coatings! This is simply the best, and only, company you should consider for your spray foam insulation needs. I had my steel barn spray foamed by a different company. I was concerned about the low quality of that job. I have a wifi thermometer in the building and can watch the temperature closely. The temperature inside the building fluctuated almost exactly at the same time as the outside temperature. Clearly the foam was NOT insulating well. I contacted TCS and they came to inspect. They pointed out all of the many many problems with the foam. It was determined that ALL of that existing foam needed removal. The crew from TCS did an amazing job! This building is 40'x50' with 19' high sidewalls. A HUGE job! They worked so hard for many days. They then primed all of the now bare steel, and applied the new foam insulation. Now the temperature stays constant inside when the outside temp goes up and down. It's a huge difference! The workers were great to have around for over 2 weeks. Really nice and friendly. They feel like family now. I'm sure their arms and shoulders are still painful from this job. The building inspector was impressed with their work. The first picture shows only a tiny bit of the bad foam. This shows that the first company did not mix the foam correctly. That was only part of their problem.Posted on Google Samantha JonesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Spray foam insulation is an exceptional company.
