Closed Cell Foam
2lb, medium density closed cell spray foam is the most common foam product used in our climate zones. With an average of an R7 per inch, air barrier, and a vapor barrier past 1.5 inches, closed cell foam is truly a 3 in 1 product. Closed cell foam also increases structural strength of a building by up to 300%. It can be sprayed direct to wood, metal, plastic, crushed gravel and many other material. With a lifespan of 100+ years, this is a true multi generational insulation product. It does not absorb moist or allow for mold growth and helps keep out insects and rodents.
There are also higher density foams for other uses such at 2.8lb roofing foam. TCS is happy to provide all spec closed cell foams and application for your projects need.
Open Cell Foam
0.5lb low density open cell from is used much less in our climate zones. It has an average of R3.5 per inch and is an air barrier but is not a vapor barrier. If used on exterior walls in our cold climate, a poly vapor barrier must be installed as well. Open cell does have much better sound deadening properties though than closed cell foam. It can be used in subfloors and interior walls for sound deadening. Although we spray very little open cell foam in our climate zones, if open cell foam is something you are interested in, call TCS today to discuss your project's needs.
Is Spray Foam Flammable?
A common concern many people have is the misconception that spray foam is highly flammable. Modern day spray foam materials are not flammable. All USA and Canada certified spray foams have a high amount and flame retardants added to them. This actually leads them to have Class A Flame Spread rating, putting them in the same category as products like brick, concrete and gypsum board (sheetrock). Modern spray foam will self-extinguish and is not a fire risk.
